Hello
I'm Alicia- a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). Thanks for checking out my page and congrats to you for [finally] taking the steps to becoming better. Counseling is a great way for you to explore who you are, what you want, and how you want to live.
I'll be honest- I didn't know I was going into this field when I was in school. I think I changed my major four times in college. While I was in school, I was working at the front desk of a weight loss office and got a front row seat to watching people commit to changing their lives. I could see how the physical transformation affected the mental one & I wanted to know more.
I thought I'd never finish school, but I did! I received my undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of South Carolina- Upstate and my Masters in Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of South Carolina- Columbia. I've been working in healthcare ever since, with 12 years of experience with an outpatient weight loss office. Early on in my counseling career I did specific training in a Brain Injury program and have also worked in an inpatient rehabilitation setting.
I specialize in weight loss and helping people create a healthy relationship with food.
My services may be helpful if you:
Have treated yourself with food after surviving a stressful day.
Beat yourself up over your food choices.
Eat very little and find yourself frustrated that you aren’t losing weight.
Let me help you get out of this self-defeating cycle. I can offer helpful tips, relevant to your lifestyle, that won't focus on eliminating food groups and will promote all the areas of a sustainable, healthy lifestyle.
In addition to specializing in weight loss, I also work with people experiencing anxiety & depression, healthcare workers, people experiencing work-related stress & symptoms of burnout, women's issues, infertility, relationship issues, marriage & parenting issues and anyone who is aspiring to be better version of themselves.
I believe in a holistic approach to counseling that focuses on one's physical, mental & social well-being. Learning how to make yourself a priority, creating healthy boundaries, & believing in yourself are key components to reaching & sustaining a healthy lifestyle. I don't think that one specific therapeutic approach works for every client. I typically use a variety of theories in my approach, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Person-centered Therapy. I also have experience working with people who have had weight loss surgery.
I am laid back, informal, easy going- I want the counseling experience to be comfortable. I'll help you set goals that are important to you & will hold a safe place for you to share your pitfalls & acknowledge your progress. I like to be my client's biggest cheerleader- operating from a "glass half full" mentality. I truly believe that mindset is everything and that there's a lot of power in changing the narrative in your head.
Some personal things about me- I'm a wife & a mom first. I like to make lists for everything. I am probably overly organized- everything has a spot. I'm a sucker for a new notebook. Actually, any kind of office supply item brings me immense joy (I'm not hard to please!). I am a morning person; I wake up super early which means I like to go to bed before the sun sets in the summertime. I believe the second cup of coffee will absolutely morph me into a better, more productive person. I like to read, surf Pinterest, and stay home. Most importantly, I don't take it lightly that people let me see a vulnerable version of themselves. I'd be honored to hold that space for you.
